Westminster’s Backer Dining Hall is often known for being predictable and having limited options. However, recent additions to the Fresh Ideas’ staff have brought promising changes to the dining hall service.

Have you ever wondered who the person responsible for coordinating the array of food at Backer Dining Hall and the Johnson College Inn is? The mastermind behind all Westminster’s food services has served three U.S. presidents and has two World Series rings for his work planning events for the St. Louis Cardinals. That man is Kevin Owen. Owen is currently the college’s director of Dining Services and Catering and has been employed at Westminster for the past five years.

Gas masks and ropes hang on orange walls inside the old brick building. Mine cars are stationed on wooden shafts decorated with shovels and pick axes. A rainbow fire backdrop greets guests at the hostess’ station. One might think that I am walking through the halls of a bizarre mining museum, but I am actually dining at Fulton’s newest eatery, The Copper Mine Restaurant.
The French Club hosted their annual cheese tasting last Friday in Hazel 112. The cheese featured were Roquefort bleu cheese, Brie Babybel and Ossau-Iraty, a cheese made from sheep’s milk.

For three and a half years, Fulton Sub Shop was a favorite eatery and hangout spot for many Westminster students. But on Friday, March 4, the restaurant served customers for the final time. After facing increasing medical and financial hardships, management tried to sell the business but failed to do so and was forced to close. Read more

Ricky and Candy Fontenot couldn’t live in Louisiana, so they decided to bring Louisiana to Fulton by opening Fontenot’s Po’ Boys. The restaurant, which just opened this month, serves traditional Cajun food and is located on Nichols between Fifth and Sixth Streets. Read more
