The women’s basketball team defeated Webster Groves 73-60 on Feb. 13 to secure the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship. The victory extended their win streak to 12 games, putting them at 18-4 overall (14-2 in conference).

The Lady Blue Jays never trailed in a game that saw them up by as many as 22 points. Krista Armontrout, ‘17, finished with a double-double (18 pts, 10 reb) while Andrea Zalis, ’17, put in 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

The Lady Jays forced 17 turnovers and were able to score 19 points off those mistakes.

“We had a great start,” Zalis said. “Our on-ball pressure, as well as our defensive pressure overall really set the tone.”

In a conferencing-clinching game, the stakes had never been higher.

“There has always been a little unspoken rivalry between us and Webster,” Payton Beeler, ‘18, said. We were able to handle the pressure well and come out with the win to become conference champions.”

Westminster’s next game is Feb. 17 at MacMurray, before the Lady Jays come home for the season finale and Senior Day on Feb. 20 to play Principia.
