You may have seen them perform on NBC’s musical competition “The Sing-Off,” in “Pitch Perfect 2,” or alongside Linkin Park, the Black Eyed Peas or Pentatonix — now you can see The Filharmonic, an a cappella group of six young Filipino-Americans, perform live on campus
Thanks to Campus Activities Board, The Filharmonic is set to take the stage in Champ Auditorium on Friday at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
According to the group’s website, the musicians “honor their Filipino heritage through incredibly nuanced musical performances that are both moving and fun to experience.” While known for blending a cappella and Filipino culture, The Filharmonic also executes skill in pop, jazz, opera, theater and classical music.
“Campus Activities Board provides a great way to get involved on campus, and this event will be the first a cappella group Westminster has hosted,” CAB’s Special Events Chair Lydia Creech, ’19, said, adding that the night will be a fun way for the student body to experience the talent that comes with a cappella.
In addition to bringing The Filharmonic to campus, CAB is hosting a VIP competition. The winner and three friends will receive front row seats and attend a 15 minute meet and greet after the show. To enter to win, share CAB’s post on the Facebook page.
CAB received a 15-minute glimpse of The Filharmonic when members traveled to the National Association for Campus Activities in the fall. After being impressed with the performers, CAB decided to showcase the group’s talent on campus.
“These artists spend a great portion of their time perfecting their craft, and they are eager to show off their abilities to the community,” Creech said. “Come out to see a great show!”
