Meet the New SGA President

Zach Stafford, ’17, has been elected Westminster’s 2016 President of the Student Government Association. Stafford is from Belleville, Illinois, and is majoring in environmental science and history and minoring in geology. He is also the Geologian President and a member of Phi Delta Theta and the History Club. Before being elected SGA President, Stafford served on SGA as his Sophomore Class President and Junior Class Senator. The Columns caught up with Stafford to learn more about the new president and his plans for the upcoming year.

Q: Why did you decide to run for SGA president?

I felt that Westminster has done a lot for me to better myself. I thought running for SGA president could be my opportunity to give back.

Q: What are some of your upcoming plans as SGA president?

My upcoming plans are to increase better relations between groups such as the student body and security, increase the green movement, and create better accommodations for students who may find it difficult to travel to other places.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming year?

I am looking forward to meeting all the new people and discussing issues in order to make Westminster a better place.

Q: What do you want students to know about SGA?

I would want the students to know that SGA and its senators are a great outlet for students to have their voices heard. Also, you do not have to be a part of SGA to attend one of the meetings, so please join us!

Q: What changes would you like to see on campus?

I would like to see better campus involvement from the students here on campus. I believe that we should support our fellow Blue Jays in almost all avenues!

Q: What has been your favorite Westminster memory?

My favorite memory here at Westminster is one that keeps happening, but it’s all the late night fast food runs and how many times something interesting has happened, from deep conversation to people we meet.

Q: What is something not many people know about you?

I am currently in the process of receiving my pilot’s license.
