Men’s Basketball Looks Forward to Successful Upcoming Season
BY BEN CAMPBELL
The Westminster men’s basketball team opens its season today in an exhibition game against Columbia College at 7 p.m.
The Blue Jays return several key players from last year’s team, including guard Tanner Cochran (7.5 ppg), and forwards Tanner Gentges (7.8 ppg) and Matt Murphy (9.0 ppg). Also expected to contribute are newcomers Zach Nelson and Stu Hollandsworth.
“We have a lot of new guys this year who can really make an impact if everyone accepts their role to help the team succeed,” Cochran, 18, said. “We want to improve as a team as the season progresses so that we’re playing our best basketball at the right time of the year.”
The preparation for a successful season began long before the official start of practices in mid-October.
“We had preseason workouts three days a week before the season started, as well as multiple open gyms throughout the week,” Gentges, ’17, said. “Now, we practice six days a week.”
The Blue Jays’ regular season begins on Nov. 20 when they play Milliken University in the Tip-Off Tournament at 3 p.m.
