Free Will Goes Under the Microscope at TEDxWestminsterCollege

What is TEDx?
According to the TEDx website, the program is “designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connect through local TED-like experiences. At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos — or a combination of live presenters and TED Talks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections at the local level. TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED.”
What is TEDxWestminsterCollege?
TEDxWestminsterCollege is an independent, student-led TED event modeled after TED conferences. The purpose of this event is to engage the Westminster community with distinguished changemakers who have dared to be different in their generations. This event aims to further Westminster’s mantra of developing leaders in a global community.
What is the theme?
Thou Mayest: The Will to Change the World
Drawn from John Steinbeck’s novel East of Eden, “Though Mayest” refers to the notion that individuals determine their own destinies. The theme will explore how people can combat social injustices and create social change in spite of challenging circumstances.
Who will speak at TEDxWestminsterCollege?
Fourteen diverse speakers with innovative perspectives on different areas. Two of them are from Westminster College: President Akande and Dr. James McRae, associate professor of philosophy and religious studies. Other speakers include Rachel Hills, author of The Sex Myth: The Gap Between our Fantasies and Reality, and Zhou Li, a nuclear physicist and software engineer. Additional speakers will be announced in the future through public media and the event’s Facebook page.

Who will attend TEDxWestminsterCollege?
100 – 150 attendees consisting of a diverse group of Westminster students, alumni, and faculty members, as well as off-campus guests.
