Women’s Tennis Claims Fourth in Conference
BY EMILY KESEL
The Blue Jay women’s tennis team ended its season over the weekend with a loss to Greenville College in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The 6-3 loss resulted in a fourth place finish for Westminster College in the tournament and ended its season with an overall record of 4-8.
Westminster was shut out in doubles play, as each of the three pairs fell to their Panther opponents. Senior Jessica Klutts and junior Grace Sanford lost 9-7 in the three spot, while sophomore Laura Kelly and junior Laura Wiltshire fell 8-2 in the two spot, as did freshman Payton Beeler and sophomore Ellen Woolsey in the number one spot.
The Blue Jays rallied back for three wins in singles play, but it was not enough to overcome the Greenville lead. Kelly, Woolsey, and Sanford each won their singles matches.
With no graduating seniors on the team this season, the Blue Jays hope to build on their success and be even stronger next year.
