Recap of Men’s Basketball
BY EVAN LEMASTER
Following the end of the season, the Blue Jays look forward to what next year has to offer.
Westminster faced off with Spalding University for the last game of the season on Feb. 21. The Blue Jays fell in the final game to the Golden Eagles by a score of 63-55
Slow starts were a common theme for the Blue Jays this season, but it was a different story for this game. Westminster came out hot and led by nine points just over five minutes into the game. The nine-point difference ended up being the largest lead for the Blue Jays. Westminster continued to control the game in the first half and went into halftime with a lead of 34-29. Spalding was down but not out, as the Golden Eagles were able to fight back into the lead in the second half with a 6-0 run. This run put Spalding up 35-34, and they never looked back. Westminster battled but could not get back on top, and the season ended with the Blue Jays falling just short.
On the season, the points leader for the Blue Jays was Brandon Moore with 11.5 points per game. Tanner Gentges led the team with 3.5 rebounds per game, and Verdis Lee Jr. came in a close second with 3.4 rebounds per game. Lee also led the team in blocks per game with 0.7.
With their loss on Saturday, Westminster finished its season with a 5-20 overall record. The Blue Jays will only be graduating two seniors, Lee and Moore, this year. Westminster will be returning three starters next season and expects to have a good new recruiting class.
The Blue Jays will not be lacing their shoes again this year, but the offseason will be filled with more gym time and weightlifting. The 2014-2015 season is over and it is now time to prepare for the next season.
